What is kinesiology tape?
Kinesiology tape is an elastic, cotton tape. The tape has the same thickness and elasticity as skin and therefore adapts incredibly well to every movement; it is basically a second skin.
Where does it come from?
The origin of kinesiology tape is in Japan in the 1970s. Japanese chiropractor Kenzo Kase designed this tape when he could straighten the joints of rheumatoid arthritis patients, but could not keep them in place. The tape he initially did this with was stiff and not suitable for sticking to the skin. Kase therefore devised a flexible tape that was firm but also hypoallergenic.
What is the effect of kinesiology tape?
Kinesiology tape is increasingly used in the sports world and by physiotherapists. The tape stimulates blood flow around and under the tape. The skin is lifted slightly by the tape. This lifting effect improves blood circulation and promotes lymphatic drainage.
For what complaints do you use kinesiology tape?
Kinesiology tape, also known as medical tape, is used for a variety of complaints. Among other things, it is used for:
- Reducing fluid accumulation or inflammation
- Improving joint mobility
- Treating injuries to, for example, back or shoulder
Does kinesiology tape help with hay fever?
Medical tape can also be used for hay fever complaints. The tape is applied to the back using a special technique. The area under the tape is influenced, thus affecting the organs involved in hay fever, such as the lungs.
