How long do you have to wear a Strassburg Sock?

If you suffer from heel spur, this can be treated by wearing a Strassburg sock. But what does this sock do exactly? And how long can you best wear this plantar fasciitis sock? We would like to give you more information on the Strassburg sock and its use. Feel free to read on below!

What's Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar Fasciitis is a calcification of the tendon plate, which in some cases causes an inflammation under the heel. Symptoms that often occur with heel spur are pain and stiffness under the heel when walking for a long time or standing still. Heel spur is more common in women than in men and is caused by, among other things, wearing poor quality shoes, being overweight and by overusing the heel.

What's a Strassburg sock?

The Strassburg sock is a stocking that is pulled over the entire calf, until just below the knee. There is a piece of Velcro at the toes that is attached to a ring at the height of the knee. When the Velcro is tightened, the toes and foot are fixed in a 90° angle. Because of this, the heel spur sock ensures that the foot is forced into a fixed position overnight, causing a slight stretching of the tendon plate. This shortens the tendon plate and drastically reduces the complaints and pain of the heel and thus also plantar fasciitis.

How long should you wear a Strassburg sock?

As mentioned, wearing a Strassburg sock helps a great deal against the painful discomfort caused by heel spur. For the best result, it is advisable to wear the heel spur sock continuously for at least 2 to 3 months. It is important to keep it on for this period and not to give up when you notice improvement. For optimal results, wear the sock all night. There are people who find this annoying and take the sock off during the night. In any case, try to wear the sock for as long as you can. Or choose to wear the sock in the evening when you are relaxed and comfortable on the couch.

If you have heel spur and are trying to remedy it, always make sure you get enough rest, wear shoes that offer the right support, and possibly choose to wear insoles and heel cushions for extra support.
